“I wanted to take a moment to let you know how much I enjoy going to your class. I have been working out consistently for about 3 years now... But after taking your class, I have to say I’m hooked!!. I’ve not felt that challenged in a long time. You are GREAT! at what you do, and I feel privileged to be able to take your class.”—Staff Manager, Central Market Food Store

Joseph’s Philosophy and Style of Yoga

Our mission at Yoga Style Fitness is centered around Yoga’s physical attributes - strengthening, toning, breathing, and balancing - as well as its spiritual element of bringing balance to one’s life by focusing on inner strength.

Although its roots are with Hinduism, Yoga is not a religion. At Yoga Style Fitness we do not teach religion, but we do believe there is a link between spiritual and physical health. Not only is Yoga an ancient practice involving breathing and stretching exercises, it also embraces philosophy, spirituality and mental discipline.

We do not engage in chanting and the complicated philosophical underpinnings that some view as intrinsic to Yoga. We do believe that Yoga can and will change your life - spiritually, physically and mentally.

Joseph

I am Joseph Stingley, owner and instructor at Yoga Style Fitness. I am a long time fitness enthusiast with a desire to live life as God intended and a passion for transforming people. In line with my beliefs and passion, I became certified as a Physical Fitness Specialist, with emphasis on special needs individuals (those with lower back pain, pregnancy, diabetes, and obesity, just to nsame a few).

I was first introduced to Yoga in 2003, and due to its positive effect on all aspects of my life, my interest blossomed. Within a short period of time, I was instructing numerous Yoga classes. In June 2005, I lead a Yoga retreat at Casa de Flores Cuernavaca in Mexico. I have studied under world-renowned Yoga greats, Baron Baptiste, Rod Stryker and Steve Ross; and have trained many fitness club instructors in the practice of Yoga. I undertook a week-long rigorous Power Vinyasa Yoga boot camp for instructors given by Baron Baptiste, a recognized authority on the psychology of turning one’s physical and personal life around.

In 2010 I completed all of the Yoga Alliance requirements to become a 200-Hour Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT®). To receive this certification I undertook 100 hours of training in Yoga techniques training, 25 hours in teaching methodology, 20 hours in anatomy & physiology, 30 hours on Yoga philosophy/lifestyle and ethics for Yoga teachers, as well as 25 hours of other training. To complete the requirements I successfully passed a written exam covering all of these areas.

I have been in national publications and was honored in the May 2005 issue of IDEA Fitness Journal as an Outstanding Member of IDEA.

I Am Always Learning

In moving into a deeper level of my Yoga practice I have now started in-depth studies with Shanon Buffington, E-RYT.  Shanon's teachings are influenced by the Tantric tradition of Sri Vidya and the lineage of Sri Swami Rama of the Himalayas.  She aims to bring an authentic experience of the Yoga tradition to each class as well as to everyday life.

Shanon's training includes certifications from the Yoga Institute and ParaYoga.  Her training is in classical Tantra, Hatha, and Raja Yoga.  She is a member of the Yoga Alliance, with over 400 hours of Yoga training.  She has studied with her teacher Yogarupa Rod Stryker, considered to be one of the pre-eminent Yoga and meditation teachers in the United States, since 2005.
